Our Foundation

Founded in 2014, Drawing Alegria is a foundation that strives to help children live healthier and happier lives within impoverished communities in Colombia. Drawing Alegria was created with the aim of providing free surgeries for children with cleft lip and palate conditions. At its core Drawing Alegria fundraises for, organizes, and hosts surgical journeys are for children living in communities in need, who were born with cleft lip and palate but do not have the resources to properly treat the condition.

Today the foundation does much more than that; Drawing Alegria is proud to have naturally expanded to offer dental procedures, nose and ear reconstructions, psychological treatments, and speech therapy. These procedures are often a natural next step following cleft lip and palate surgeries; and Drawing Alegria is proud to provide these procedures to continue improving the lives of people in impoverished communities across Colombia.

Behind the Name

‘Alegria’ means ‘Happiness’ or ‘Joy’ in Spanish; the native language of Colombia and the Garzon brothers. When naming the foundation, the Garzon Brothers wanted to convey their desire to create or ‘Draw’ healthy smiles and happiness on the faces of as many people as possible. This made Drawing Alegria the perfect name for the foundation.

In Spanish the name of the foundation is Dibujando Alegria. As you may have guessed ‘Dibujando’ is the Spanish translation of ‘Drawing’.
