Cleft lip and cleft palate, is a group of conditions that includes cleft lip, cleft palate, and both together. A cleft lip contains an opening in the upper lip that may extend into the nose. The opening may be on one side, both sides, or in the middle. A cleft palate is when the roof of the mouth contains an opening into the nose. These disorders can result in feeding problems, speech problems, hearing problems, and frequent ear infections. Less than half the time the condition is associated with other disorders.
- Cleft lip and palate affect a child’s ability to develop socially.
- Speaking, eating and hearing are very difficult for them.
- Children with cleft lip and palate often suffer from malnutrition as well
- More than a single surgery is (often?) needed
- CAD$250 pays for one child’s surgery

All eligible donations will be provided a tax receipt in January/February of the year following the donation. Tax receipts are provided for cumulative giving over $20.00 in the year and only if we have your full name and mailing address of the donor. A donation made to any appeal represents a notation to the entire FutureWatch on behalf of Drawing Alegria. To help the most children, we use your donation where it can do the most good by pooling it with the donation of others.
